The Acme Electric Company was founded in 1948 in Grand Forks, North Dakota as an electric motor repair company.
There are four North Dakota stores known as Tool Crib of the North; located in Grand Forks, Bismarck, Fargo & Minot.
In 2004, Acme Electric acquired Puckett Tools and Equipment with stores
in Des Moines, Waukee and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Puckett Tools has had a long and friendly
relationship with Acme over the years and was a natural fit to become part of the Acme Electric Family.
The fall of 2005 marked a new era for Acme Electric with the creation of Acme Tools in Plymouth, MN.
The move to a large metro area has been a big challenge, but has proven to be a great achievement for the company.
Since then, the Duluth, MN location has changed it's name from Tool Crib of the North to Acme Tools.
On April 1, 2007, the Puckett Tools and Equipment name was changed over to Acme Tools
to follow the theme of the Minnesota stores.
In addition to the nine retail stores, Acme also
operates rental stores in Grand Forks, Bismarck, Fargo, Minot, Duluth & Bemidji, MN under the name Acme Rents.
Acme currently employs over 275 people company-wide.
